Ardent Joy

Although he was clever at masking his physical fear and hopelessness, he was unable to disguise the pain evident in his piercing blue eyes that once held vibrance and life. Slowly his positivity was fading and his eyes becoming a shade that ever-so-slightly resembled grey. Not the colour of the clouds on a stormy summer’s day, but rather the turmoil portrayed by the waves in the centre of the ocean on a windy winter’s night - sections struck by the glistening moonlight, highlighting the sheer height of the violent waves, decorated only by a trim of whitewash. There was fear, trembling, uneasiness and doubt. That was the colour of his eyes.
